The head of FIFA's referees committee has insisted no risks have been taken with the appointment of officials for World Cup games.

As debate intensifies over the standard of officiating following yet another controversial display in the Brazil v Ivory Coast game that infuriated both teams, Jose Marcia Garcia-Aranda admitted that not every decision had been correct but defended his 30 officials and said no sanctions should be taken against any of them.

The Chief the refs must be blind as almost every ref in this World Cup has screwed up...

I think the refereeing in this world cup is not good, even for the whole sport.
Offsides and stupid fouls should be judged after replays or allow each team certain times to review a decision (like in tennis).
I blame mainly FIFA procedures when a match starts to get out of control and one sees lots of cards being handed out, and players getting angry at the ref.

Some of the decisions are shockers and shouldn't occur in any tournament of this caliber.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Between the diving and rubbish refereeing I'm beginning to remember why I'm not much of a football fan.

What exactly do they mean by risk?

Ouch! And ditto. That Uruguay game we lost - much diving from their #10 without repercussion

At least when you dive in Rugby, it's cos Spies just mowed you down. Or Bakkies klapped you down. Or Schalk bit you down.

The diving has been shocking, fifa need to stamp it out.

The current ref system is useless.

Makes me want to not watch soccer (and I don't anymore, only watch the end of the games and highlights).

Or one was blowing a vuvuzela at a rugby game and the fans sorted that someone, no?
The soccer diving made me not want to watch the game at all, it's becoming a joke and I know other sports will become more popular because of that.
