Any one know of places in pta that does the above? I checked the yellow pages and could only find 2, and they are not open on Saturdays

Thanks

As far as I know there is a place on Zambesi Drive that is open on a Saturday, can't for the life of me remember the name right now!

Rather take it somewhere proper, if they don't use the correct gas the compressor bearing will fail (very very quickly). If they don't fill up at the correct pressure the system will be less efficient (that counts for both too high or too low a pressure). Lastly, it's a closed system, if the gas is out, you have a leak without a doubt. I've got a Corsa that ran 8 years without a refill before one of the pipes got a hole in it. Still worked until that day, never needed to fill it up or do anything apart from change the pollen filter.

yip, I am pretty sure there is a leak in the thing, found a place in centurion, its about R500 + but they check everything

Hope I'm not too late...

Your A/C should never need refilling. If it does that means it has sprung a leak... try to find a place that will use some fluorescent dye in the refilling process, this means that when it runs dry again you can use a black light and hopefully spot the site of the leak. Otherwise you are in for several refillings along with the tiresome process of trying to find the problem through trial and error... or just leaving it and living without which is what usually happens.

If you look in the Toyota instruction manual it says that your AC will become less efficient if you don't use it for at least 10 minutes every two weeks. The rubbers go hard and gas can escape.

I agree to refill with a dye, but they do lose refrigerant over time if they are not used all the time.

Yip, unfortunately I bought the bakkie second hand in may (don't know how many times the previous owner used the aircon), but I hardly used it during the winter, and about two weeks ago, when I was driving back from Potch on a warm saturday afternoon, I switched on the aircon, and was met with a huge blast of absolutely .....warm air (outside temperature). But Ja, I'll take it to the place in Lenchen, they test for leaks and everything

Before you go, just request that they put a dye into the gas, it works brilliantly, but not all people add it. I think you pay an extra R25 or something - well worth it.

It is a Pleasure, hope they live up to the reputation from what i heard...

Independant Car Radio Airconditioning

Can't comment on A/C wotk, but have a good reputation.
Did a good install on my Bestech Cruise Control system.

Haven't used they're A/C services.
They are brilliant with sound installs, very happy with mine.

Thanks for all the advice, will do, am taking it in next week

Out of interest how much are you being quoted for the refill?

Spotted a guy on the side of the road in Durbs today and pulled over to ask some questions. He seemed to know what he was on about as he spoke about ensuring the unit was empty, filling to a certain pressure, using dye to see if there are leaks etc etc. He reckoned he would fill the aircon for R350. Just wondering what the normal price is.

Lance don't be sucked in by the guys parked next to the road you will probably waste your money.

Simply take your car to Connoisseur in whatever Smith Street is called now. They will do a factory job on the car and not rip you off. I wasted 350 in Winkelspruit (Smiths next to Pick 'n Pay) last March, had to have the system re-gassed in Polokwane three weeks later where they did a proper job in a proper workshop with proper equipment and charged me R250.

The place in lenchen in Centurion, charges me about R570, and this includes cleaning, "re-seal" and refill
