Refurbished PC worth the buy?

Hi

Hope someone can help me.
I'm working within a budget.
Overall is it worth buying a refurbished tower pc.
And if so what makes it worth it besides the price?

I will be researching the company from where I'll be buying it just to make sure I dont get screwed.

I'll steer clear of a refurbished unit, and buy a new system.

What is the warranty period on such a refurbished PC vs a new system?
 
'Refurbished' can mean anything from cleaned and tested, to remanufactured and supplied with warranty. Major corporations often rent instead of buying and upgrade after 24/30 months. The defunct PCs then get onto the market as 'refurbished'.

Refurbished would basically be a used PC that has been cleaned out, Hard drive formatted and Windows or OS reloaded.
I sell "Refurbished" or as I say used Pc's and I don't see the problem with them. These machines are generally purchased from Auctions or Companies that only use the PC's for a specific event and then sell them. I have been doing it for 8 years and if you want value for money it's the way to go. I would suggest you be carefull when buying a refurbished unit and make sure that everything works fine. Get at least a 3 month warranty and test the machine properly.
 
I am wary of people with a lack of postcount advising to buy refurbished machines especially if its their business - you get some sharks out there.

Refurbished pc's for me would be a no go, overpriced and underpowered - dont bother.

Dude, the IT alternative for refurbished is a unit that was overclocked to death and now being sold ;)

My previous system I overclocked to hell and gone (videocard/ram/mobo/cpu) and then took the entire thing apart (even the fans cleaned out the bearings everything, it looked spanking new ;) ) and sold the unit to a friend (for a pretty good price).

Still works 100% 3 years later. Hardware doesn't usually fail just like that I'm more worried that you'll get ripped. I've seen many places that sell "refurbished" computers for outrages prices, so make 100% sure what you are paying is worth it.
 
If you have something in mind or get some quotes, post the specs here, and we can advise further. What is your budget? Maybe you can get a basic brand new PC and build up from there.

I know that Dell PC's are frequently sold as refurbished - not sure of the exact reason, but I reckon 'cos there's so many used by large businesses -- our office PC's are Dell and they upgrade every couple of years, so the old ones have to go somewhere...
 
There is a company in CT called Rentworks that rent PC's out and then sell them after the rental is over. If they've been used for business purposes then i'd say go for it.

Just remember that most Dell machines come with a next business day onsite warranty and they're covered for 3 years. You can always call Dell on 011 7097700 and check the TAG number on the back with them to see if it's still under warranty.

That R2100 for a complete working PC. If that's all you've got to spend then yes it is a good deal although for a bit more you could do quite a bit better.
 
Ya look, if you're going to write Word docs on it or surf, then it'll suffice.
 
R2100 for that spec seems very very pricy to me - especially with such a low warantee - wouldnt touch it.

how on earth is that pricey

awesome price if you ask me

its a complete pc only thing i would change is the cd rom for a dvd writer but other than that pay the 195 and buy it

someone show me a full pc including 17" monitor for a little more
 
17" CRT is around 500-600 new - second hand even cheaper , could almost get a brand new dual core for maybe R500-R1000 more and would be alot faster/have full warantee/more ram/hdd etc.
