Johannesburg - Orange Farm residents have emptied their waste bins at the house of their ward councillor Lindelwa June Nhose, according to a report on Thursday.

The Star newspaper reported that residents were protesting about the lack of waste removal.

They claimed their refuse had not been collected since 16 December. They wheeled their bins to Nhose's front yard and emptied the waste there on Saturday. The wasted was collected on Tuesday.

Protest organiser Pule Semahla said they approached a manager at Pikitup who told them trucks had broken down. They did not believe him and approached head office where they were told the head office was not aware of the problem.

"When we took the matter to our councillor, to whom we have been crying about this for weeks, she gave us attitude and so we reacted."

The newspaper reported that Pikitup was unable to respond and Nhose's cellphone was switched off.

Well done. This is the way to get things done. No burning or looting. Just simply dump the ███████ at the councillor's house.

If it is roads, tear up the councillor's road. Etc etc etc.

I guarantee you, the councillor will sort things out quicker.

Well done... but:

#JoziMoneyMess Pikitup (refuse removal company) is bankrupt.Must be privatized.JHB repays its service providers in 159 days (law:30 days).

Pikitup is indeed in deep ****. Most of their vehicles have not been maintained and are broken down, they have to hire vehicles to pick up rubbish.

That's not the local councillor's problem. That's the city management's problem. Councillors can only do so much.

Oops. And the problem will not be resolved, it will only get worse.

It is the Councillor's problem. She has a hand in the city management. That's why she is a Councillor.

Not really. The city managers can choose to completely ignore them. Ask any of the DA councillors struggling to get issues sorted out...

I beg to differ, as the counsellors are the ones that have a say on the management and the running of the city.
Joe soap does not even feature from the city management perspective. City management only see u as their cash cow

If there's enough push from the bottom, eventually the top will feel the push, as long as there's enough publicity.

DA Councillor struggling in a ANC led municipality or vice versa. Understandable.

She is an ANC Councillor struggling in an ANC led municipality. She is accountable for that cities management team because she and her party had a hand in their appointment.

Oh I get you, but guaranteed the fat ****ers lining their pockets at the top pay exactly as much attention to her as they do to the DA councillors. We all know how it SHOULD work. And we all know very well that it certainly doesn't work like it should.

Love it :D

That's precisely how you should handle bad service delivery.

In fact, take it one step further: No water? Use your councillor's. No electricity? Use your councillor's. No roof over your head? No problem, use your councillor's.

That'll get them sorting out service delivery issues chop-chop!

In which case she is expected to use her voice in her party to make a difference. Or else she should give up being a Councillor and give somebody who can make a difference a chance.

But wait. She also gets a fat cheque at the end of the month.
