Registering an old car

I've have an old car with no papers, no tags (vin or engine nr) just a numberplate with no history according to autotrader.

Is it possible to re-register that vehicle so that I can drive it legally on the roads?

Classics will be worth much more if you have the papers in hand when selling, so I could be worthwhile to go through the shlep.

Yes it is possible, but you will get to meet some new people at your local cop shop and traffic department as result of this.

Mark 1 Cortina.

I can imagine that it is quite a process as you only have, in this case, a number plate to go on, which is a Transvaal plate.
