Registering your solar with ESKOM

Eskom can go fly a kite. But for what it’s worth, I chose to go off grid for exactly this reason.

We still have a grid connection, and I can switch over to Eskom if we really need to (like this past weekend when we had to make excessive use of the oven). But I will just be upgrading my batteries again end of Feb, and then as far as I am concerned, Eskom is welcome to come remove their equipment. I will run a generator to recharge batteries if things go a bit pear shaped over the winter some days

F&#$ them, they must come find me and issue me with a notice...good luck

Do you pay Eskom or a municipality for your electricity?

does anytone know what is the process to register your solar with ESKOM?

According to a MyBroadband report, Eskom has warned South African homeowners with rooftop solar systems that all grid-tied solar setups not registered with the utility are now considered “illegal”.

Ignore them. According to Eskom, you have to have a dedicated transformer which is complete pie in the sky demands.

To play devil's advocate, if you've gone with a grid-tied system but not done it properly, then you are not that different from those guys who've got extension cables running to Eskom's transformers.

OTOH obviously if Eskom wants R 50k-worth of work done to sign off on a properly-done system then that is ridiculous. Sounds like some Eskom people need to be brought out of the 1980s and up to date. Otherwise systems will just be "illegal" on paper and nothing will be done, while Eskom loses control over its grid standards/integrity.

But I'm willing to bet that guy paying R50k had a dangerous badly-done install that was not going to be compliant anywhere.

I find this amusing because when I installed my solar geyser I had to "register" with Eksdom for a discount..................

I'm quite certain the color of that paint is white

Agree. If i use my change over switch with solar system connected as primary supply and Eskom as fail over, then my solar is not connected to Eskom, with only drawback Eskom can't charge my battery's. Perhaps a much smaller price to pay? :)
