I need to have this PC formatted and reinstall everything. Is it possible for me to backup the entire WoW directory (16 gigs) and reload it back onto the PC? Reinstalling it manually with all the patches etc. will be an absolute nightmare

Just copy the directory to another HDD, once you have finished your format just copy the directory back to the old HDD and off you go. It is instant, no install required.

Interesting that your WoW directory is 16GB. Mine was just over 10 when I backed it up and a clean install was just over 9GB.

I wonder what is causing the bloat, unless you have a million add-ons.

You don't have to backup your downloads of the upgrades.
Won't do any harm though.

I cannot remember if the Updates folder (mine contains 2 wow updates) was made by me or wow.

It could be because hes got all the old patches in his wow folder dont need onces before WOTLK anymore.

But copying a folder to nother HDD is stupid cause the whole point of formatting is to clean you pc of all the old crap thats causing problems.

Ill just back the patches up on dvd then reinstall.
I also downloaded the BC and original WOW dvd from Blizzard.
Then you dont have to swap cds and i run them from my HDD when i install ALOT faster than from DVD.

My wow game direcory has been on 3 different pc's about 20 formats and the game still runs perfect. Just by doing the repair tool you can get the wow game back to its original state.

I've only installed WoW once on my own machine. Cleared out my addons, cache and WTF folders a few times to start over with my UI.

I have copies of my directory on 2 of my other hard drives, removable hard drive, laptop, wife's machine and the server at work just in case...

off topic:

Barfish, I think you're one of the only 2 people in Queenstown who play WoW.

back on topic:

In case youre a screenshot junkie like me, just check that the folder isn't chowing space as well. It's quite easy to fill it up over time/chars.
