Ok title is a bit harsh, anyway...

I'm going out on a date this Friday with an amaaazing lady...
I took a cursory look in my closet, and found (almost) nothing but tumbleweed...

My question is:

What would be considered as appropriate dress for a date at a not-so-formal restaurant?

I'm used to wearing something like short-sleeved shirt and jeans...

Adivice from both genders would be appreciated

Jeans and button-down shirt sounds fine.

Or swop jeans for chinos or slightly more formal trousers.
 
Girls dig gimp suits. I suggest getting a nice red one. Remember to get one with breathing holes though.

Jeans nice Button down shirt or if you got a nice body a T shirt will work. Smart shoes.
Nothing to bright nothing to dull. Black shirts always work.

BUT REMEMBER NICE SMART SHOES NOT TAKKIES PLEASE!!!
 
sounds like you have an identity crisis, ha ha ha, sorry had to do it!! Shoes are very important, I have ben advised on numerous occasions that a man can be judged on the appearance of his shoes
 
Girls have a thing about shoes, I have met the nicest guys but dear me those worn old dirty bronx just shows that he doesn't pay attention to details.

Love the vest idea....Just love the image of the new guy im dating with his arm pitt hair leaning over his seafood platter. Yum yum.

no way, he must trim it if he wears Vests :(

In the summer because of my body shape I like to wear vests. I trim my arm pits so that it looks nice and clean ;)

That tells you she is not a material girl. Dress down but neat ;) Don't over dress cos she will not like it seeing that was her venue choice ;)

Flippen heck if its Oceanbasket and you go in anything but shorts and a torn shirt you're overdressing.
 
Dude - jeans (good ones, girls can see crap jeans from across the room) for ocean basket unless the evening takes you elsewhere after that?

Whatever you do: be comfortable, you dont want to spend the whole evening stressing that you have overdone it.
 
I think:

Dress up in a nice Golf ****, chinos perfectly ironed, nice clean shoes (Leather).
Once done, take her some where nice. Maybe a few drinks at a news cafè or something.

There is an awesome place to have drinks which is in Sandton City. It's a very lani place with leather couches and and and. Close to the food court up the escaltors
