How do you keep relationships going. I know they a lot of work but how do you truly know when to let go and how do you move on.... Just a general question. Its good to know other peoples experiences... :o

A relationship will last forever when both parties trust and love each other. Thats basically my only reason, doubt there are any other reasons.

Man, I love all these relationship threads ;)

I think the majority of people battle to say 'it's not working' or 'let's change something'.

The majority of people end it in their heads long before, and then go out and seek an alternate partner(s) while still with the other. When the initial partner find out, it's generally over - and should be over for good.

Why do people cheat. it's so wrong. If you dont wanna be with the person, just be honest.

Mind you sadly there aren't a lot of honest people around

If both parties want to keep it alive, it will stay alive. However, in my case, I was the one that wanted to keep it alive and it died. Relationships suck, rather be a player with no emotional strings attached.

I think i would just be alone ;)

Can you manage the change though ... ? Going from being a genuine person - to being a player and playing with peoples emotions?

I couldn't.

It takes two to tango.

If both partners are willing to work on the relationship, it'll only grow stronger.

But if one decides to cheat on his/her partner, and doesn't want to work on the relationship, it'll hit rock bottom.

Exactly. This is how it works for me pretty often, I always put off breaking up with someone... I just feel too bad about it. I don't cheat but I do start looking around when I'm bored and over it :/ And yes by looking I do mean just looking

Yep I pretty much have. After 3 failed previous relationships where I put my heart on the line, and this last one which was the longest I had been in failed, I can't go through that emotional hurt again.

It changes a person, maybe not everyone, but it certainly has changed me. So yeah, it all depends how much you can/can't cope with the breakup I suppose.

I think if you are very young, it is easier to make mistakes (not that older people never make relationship mistakes!)

If you are inexperienced, you don't yet know -

a. which things to just endure for the sake of the relationship; and

b. which things are absolute dealbreakers
