Relocating to George, Garden Route

Back in CPT!
My company scored a few projects in the Garden Route and my boss offered me an opportunity to relocate with my family to George for 3 to 4 years, maybe a bit longer. It is quite an attractive offer.

My kids have just started grades 6 & 10 here in Cape Town. So they will have to join new schools from Term 2. My eldest kid will go to a tertiary institution to continue his IT studies.

Which are decent schools I should be looking at in George?

Any good tertiary institutions to look at?

And which are reasonably decent areas to stay in? We will be needing a 4 bedroom house. Preferably close to the schools.

We might take a drive up to George next weekend to have a look at schools and meet up with an agent or 2.

You lucky bum. I'd love to relocate to the Eastern Cape, PE specifically.
If anyone is looking for a seasoned Parks & Recreation director / part-time saxophonist / carnivorous woodworking enthusiast, please let me know?
 
George, Mosselbay, Hartenbos, Victoria bay, Kleinbrak, Herolds bay, Reebok and Danabaai. All places I wish I can earn the salary I do now and stay there.

I like the beautiful scenery and relaxation. It's less mediterranean and more like the Karoo runs dead into the ocean. Also the best beaches in SA in my opinion. Hotter water than CT but cooler than Durban. The people are generically more friendly and the town is alive and doesn't look like a post apocalyptic urban centre like JHB.

Cons:
December and Easter turns that place into a tourism craze. To really experience the region it's best to do it outside of seasonal holidays. It's maybe even a bit boring for most city dwellers.
Some people to watch out for though, there's not a lot of income so a lot of people are rip off artists and liars. But you can normally see straight through that.

As for areas in George - Personally, i'm in Heatherlands ( Not an estate )
Areas that i wouldn't mind staying in:
Bergsig
Loerie Park
Denver Park
Heather Park
Heatherlands

As for schools, well, give me a bit of time and i'll ask my wife ( She's a grade 5 teacher ) Then i'll get back to you?

I would never move! It's a balance between peaceful and a little bit of city life for those who want to stay young and always paint the town red.

Always well kept and clean, maintenance is well managed ( Pipes bursting et c. ) And our dam is always full? :p

Thanks for this. We like the modern houses in Heatherlands and Heather Park. I think it might be difficult to get a 4 bedroom rental here.

Anycase, we are in the initial phase of deciding. Have to find out about the schools. 1 of the agents mentioned Outeniqua High & Primary schools as being good schools.

The school has a very good track record.

Academically as well sport.

Heatherlands is f-ing expensive, going to tell you that now.

We got lucky, 260sqm floor, 600+ yard space for R12k a month. These will go anything above R18K + a month. for the smaller houses.

With all the migration from JHB, CPT, and PE, housing as well rental has become insanely expensive in George.

Just follow the saying, "If it sounds too good to be true".

Then you won't get caught out by one of these tricksters and scammers. They love lurking on Gumtree and Facebook.

How are prices in Bodorp and Denneoord in comparison?

Not sure of the rental.

But prices have been quite stable in Denneoord. Haven't seen them rising that much.

Bodorp is a different story, location location location.. All depends on where you are sitting in Bodorp. Some are insane for the area and the state the house is in.

Personally, I like Heatherlands ( Need to sell an organ or two to buy here ) and Loerie park, Bergsig.

Salaries paid are utter crap. The same goes for the surrounding areas like Mossel Bay and Knysna

What's the broadband like out there now? Had a colleague working remote from there and he only could get 10mb ADSL, that must have been around 4 years odd ago.
