Hey Guys,

I've been having major problems for allong time now. I'm trying to control my DSTV DSD990 decoder from my bedroom using remote blasters.
The first set of blasters that I originaly had could not control my decoder so I went out and got myself the newer remote blasters which does control my decoder but the problem that i'm having is that sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.
When they do work the response is pretty intermitant and slow and i'm ready to pull my hair out.

After doing a search on the internet for a solution I came across a company that has a different type of remote blaster which looks quite interesting and I was wondering if anyone has had any hands on experience with this thing as I am very reluctant to spend any more money on these things without actualy knowing if they will work properly.
The company is called Beyond Platinum and their website is www.beyondplatinum.co.za

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

Do you have a Xbox360 in the bedroom or main TV room?
I've noticed that when it's plugged in it messes around with the Ellies remote blaster I use. Once it's plugged out everything's fine.

Thanks for the info.
I don't have a xbox, so that can't be the problem but I do have a Wii.
The thing is that I have had endless problems way before I even got the Wii.

Hey Guys,
Just a quick update since I decided to bite the bullet and give the beyond platinum blaster a shot.

I received my package early Friday morning and have been testing the remote blaster throughout the weekend.
To be honest, when I received the package I really wasn't expecting much due to my previous experiences but I must say that I am Extremely happy with the results so far.

I plugged in the receiver and placed it next to my DSD990 decoder and put the transmitter battery into my remote.
I first tried changing channels from my room and was pretty supprised when it actualy worked.
I then went for a walk around my house and not once did I have a problem changing channels.

After a succsesfull test with my decoder, I decided to try out a few other things, so I put the battery into my AMP remote because I have outdoor speakers by my pool connectd to the AMP.
Supprisingly enough it worked just as well as it did with my decoder so today I Will be ordering a spare transmitter battery for my AMP remote.

The other thing that I really like about this blaster is that you can take your remote anywhere and you don't have to point it at anything.
The other nice thing is that I always found the remote blasters to be a bit of an eyesore in my house but this receiver is quite discrete and the battery transmitter eliminates the need for external transmitters.

The bottom line is that I am very happy to finaly have my problem sorted out and I am very impressed with this product.

If I left anything out or if you would like me to test anything else let me know.

Thanks for all the advice

Well, whether this was subtle or spam, I decided to order one yesterday on Bharris's advice and it was delivered tonight.

I have tested it now for about three hours, and must say it is working brilliantly! The design of the receiver unit is aesthetically a major improvement on my original blaster and no more units(and the need for two point plugs) in my bedrooms certainly helps. It is compatible in price to the original blaster I used, with the benefit of adding additional units at the cost of a battery(R120).

By the way the batteries are rechargeable in the base unit and have an adapter to cater for both AAA or AA sizes.

Please forgive me for sounding like an advert but I really have received superb service from the company!

ah...but does it really work by magically detecting trace amounts of rf that is inadvertently emitted by every remote control...as they say

or does it just measure miniscule difference in current draw...and use that to decode the ir pulses.

me and my peanut gallery would like to know

I have no clue or intention to find out how it works :), all i can say it works! and in my opinion it is a really well thought out design.

ja, i thought it was one-step up from your ordinary blasters...a good piece of engineering, but i'm not wholly convinced on their explanation for how it works, hence my curiosity.
:-)
