I'm in SA, and have an ASUS Win 8 laptop, which I have updated to Win 8.1
My Dad is in the UK, and has a HP Win 8 laptop. He has no clue how to update his system to 8.1, and I can't even explain to him to that he will find the 8.1 update facility in the Windows Store.
He's 91 years old next month
and I spend hours on Skype trying to coach him on basic Windows program use, and Windows settings, some of which he grasps, most of which he does not.
This has not usually been a problem, as his laptop use is really limited to using e-mail (via Outlook), Word Processing via MS Office (he's writing his memoirs), web browsing, and playing the odd game of scrabble or solitaire.
He has LogMeIn already installed on his laptop, which was installed, along with the original program set-ups, by my sister's husband who is also in the UK, but my Dad is very reluctant to allow him further access to his machine
(I don't think they get on too well!)
I have not used any programs like Logmein, or Teamviewer or similar in the past. But am happy to give it a go, so that I can remotely control the toppie's laptop, and remotely upgrade his current Win 8, to Win 8.1 from the "Store" app on his machine.
So, exactly what do I need to do to connect via my own laptop, to his laptop? And which remote access software would be easiest for him to install and use? All suggestions appreciated
I assume that, as he already has Logmein installed, it would make sense for me to also download & install Logmein.
But then what do I need to do to remotely connect to his machine, in order to update his machine to 8.1? Does he need to provide me with a access permission password?
I will then need to convince him to leave his laptop on, so that I can use logmein to run the 8.1 update at a time convenient to me ... this won't be easy as he seems to think that leaving his laptop on will drain the entire UK power grid resources! He currently shuts down after every session, no matter if he will use his machine again in half an hour.
