Hi All

I have something weird happening. My remote desktop to server keeps dropping. I have eliminated the following.

It is not either computer(mine or server) internet connection as I have teamviewer open and that never drops can still use teamviewer.

Something I have noticed tho there is no option to switch windows firewall on or off. I have AVG running on the server and it is running windows 7 pro on it. RDP always worked until this morning and trying to figure it out. any help would be greatly appreciated

trying a system restore now to when everything was fine so will see. It says there was a windows update. Will see if that was the issue

nope but have a feeling it has to do with the firewall as I can not change anything on the firewall says I need to restore to default settings but even when I click restore default it does not work the same screen stays there

rdp.jpg

that is the screen that I get in the firewall... RDP works now again but it bombs out after a few min and wont let me in again

Something is loosing connection by the looks of things. Do you VPN in for the RDP? Maybe the VPN is having issues. (Or is this on a internal LAN?

What's under the "Turn windows firewall on or off" link? Probably set to off or else it would not show red, but just check that as well

AVG update maybe?

ESET Nod32 can be a PITA with it's firewall (disable for x mins etc) maybe AVG has something similar - just asking, haven't used it in ages.

@irBosOtter. No VPN it is direct connection with static IP. WHen you click turn windows firewall on or off get the same screen to reset to default but can not reset to default

@MickZA have disabled AVG and still the same issue. I did a system restore as well to when it was working(RDP) but still no luck it is still very intermittent

What is the server os btw? Do you have RDS installed and licensed?

We had this issue a few years ago, and I fixed it with something I then put into Group Policy. I'm racking my brains trying to think what it was...
