Hi

I know this is probably gonna sound like a no brainer but here is the scenario

If a person wanted to have remote access to just the files on their home pc in order to sort the data and do alot of renaming and restructuring. What would be the best software to allow for this and the easiest to set up.

Ideally have low bandwidth usage and appearance like windows explorer?

Any ideas? or experience with software like this?
 
Set up a Filezilla FTP server,then you can use windows explorer to connect to the FTP and support the functions you specified - rename/move/delete etc
 
so to be clear. I install filezilla on the home pc and the work pc and then connect to the home pc. How do I know what ip to use?
 
Install Filezilla FTP server on the home PC
Then if you use a modem+router for shared internet access at home you need to add a portforward rule for FTP from the router to the home pc ( www.portforward.com )
The IP to use would be your Public-facing ADSL IP address ( which would change everytime the adsl reconnects ) which is why most routers support using something like DynDNS to update an address like myhome.dyndns.org and point it to your dynamic IP every time it changes ( www.dyndns.com )
The office PC only needs to be able to connect outward to port21 to be able to access this then using windows explorer or any FTP client
 
So I am still wondering if there is software like teamviewer where you dont have to add any port forwarding rules or dynamic dns.

Teamviewer is too slow for renaming and moving files around.

Open ports 20 & 21 (TCP) in Windows Firewall (see Control Panel). Those are the two ports you'll be forwarding in your router.

There are far more technical solutions (initially) available,remote file management isn't quite the software niche ;)

You could install Hamachi on the office and home PC which would create a basic VPN at which point both pcs are manageable from windows explorer like a regular network location. But for ease of use and setup FTP is more than likely your best bet
