Aloha, to all you network savvie people.

Your help would be much appreciated.

I've been asked by a someone who has a small business to setup remote viewing, since said someone would like to view their CCTV from anywhere.

I've come across DDns services like no-ip and dyndns.org. Is it ok to use for a small business?

Just curious, what do companies make use of when they would like to setup remote viewing?

Are the free DDns services ok, and secure to use?

and lastly,
I don't really feel comfortable opening up ports but I have too, for the connection to work.
Are there any security stuff that I should be aware of, when I do open up these ports?

Any help or explanation would be appreciated!

Have a great day,

Ciao

use port forwarding on the router to the DVR. RDP type solutions are not going to cut it. You should be able to choose the port on DVR as well as filtering and encryption depending on the brand

be careful of exposing simple IP Cameras to the internet. Many of them are not particularly secure, and you could end up sharing your video feed with any number of dodgy peeps

Hellos,

@xplicet,
When you say RDP type solutions are not going to cut it,
I presume you are refering to the no-ip/dyndns services?
If correct, what other way can one remotely view the DVR?
without making things too difficult like having to remember the IP address?
The reason why I chose the no-ip/dyndsn services as it will point the host name to the IP address and also update it if the IP address changes.
Do you have any alternative solutions which might work and is possibly secure?
With regard to filtering, should there be anything specific that I should filter?
since I am not sure with regard to it.
and as for encryption, should there be any requirements in place for it to work? or will it just work, so to speak?

@RoganDawes,
Yep, on the DVR, I have setup accounts, with usernames and passwords, it also does allow for a username and password when connecting to it via the pc.

@all,
appoligies for the newbish type questions, I just want to do it right, and securely.

Regards,
