Looking for a util to remove the crap they bundle with a new laptop. Is PC Decrapifier any good or are there any other apps you guys can recommend.

Else I'll just do it via the control panel.

For Win7

what crap?

that sticky celophane over the screen?

No all the crap software that comes bundled with windows on a new pc, half the stuff the you have to register and sign up for and most of it's just plain crap.

Use control panel. Each app uses it's own installer. Bypass it and not everything will be removed.

Is mcaffee internet security suite worth keeping? I'm keen to just load MSE on here.

Fark all this pre installed stuff is trial versions you have to buy. bye bye

Insert a OS disk, boot from it, format!
As long as you have all the drivers, otherwise it's a pain.
Should take too long to remove all the bundled crap.
Haven't used an app to remove it all in one go though - anyone used pc-decrapifier or similar?

I think that it would be wiser to manually uninstall each piece of crapware. It's just the safer option.

And I would be loath to use a piece of software called "PC decrapifier".

Can you download the Windows 7 ISO (from MS) and use it with the key on your notebook?

Not worry, it's also a trial. Busy installing MSE.

Won't the disc that comes with notebook have the same bloatware?

Yes. I have not made install disks from the HDD yet but they would contain the same crap.

I already have the ISOs but I'm not sure I can use the license key that came with it on the ISOs I have.

Anyway, all the crap is gone. Did not take long to remove. Will go see if any remnant folders gold left behind which I will delete.

The only util that will do the job properly is the Windows Installer (or Linux for the hipsteredly inclined.) Format that sumbitch and reinstall a clean OS, that's what I usually do with a new laptop/netbook. It's also usually the least frustrating and quickest method.

Next time, you should take my advice...

Uninstalling via the Control Panel leave a LOT of sh 1t behind in both the Registry and in various folders.

Get a copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro.... Via Linux Distro Downloads if you have to...

Professionals use it.

There is a 30-day trial available... But too late for the programs you have already uninstalled..

The installers that are used via the Control Panel are those that are supplied by the software vendor... They inherently want to leave traces behind after uninstalling..

Download it,try it, see for yourself.. by re-installation that crapware and then seeing what is left behind after uninstalling...

This is something I really hate about Windows laptops.

Unless things have changed you can easily remove things you shouldn't with a tool like Revo.

You can also easily remove things you shouldn't by using the command prompt...

C'mon people, advice asked, advice given, reasons justified & substantiated.
Use it, don't use it... But don't come with inane responses. If you're afraid to mess things up, get a closed system like Apple provides...

someone posted a while back on how to do this properly.

i.e. copy down key, nuke the install & reinstall

required some dos haxoring to get the OEM preactivation part to line up though - was all pretty legit though

if anyone finds the post please let me know.
