Super 'prize' just a super 'trick'
Large, bold letters announcing a "super prize" of R50 000 enticed Margaret Mungalu of Lusaka, Zambia, to journey to Cape Town to claim the winnings from mail-order firm Arcadia.

Travel-stained and disappointed, she told Argus Action just before starting the long trek home last week: "I am going back with nothing, to tell my husband and children it was just trickery."

William Mungalu helped his wife borrow R6 000 from family and friends to pay for her airfare to Johannesburg, busfare to Cape Town, and taxifare to Brackenfell where Arcadia has its offices.

Mungalu had set out from Lusaka with several notices her husband had received from Arcadia since January, each appearing to pronounce him a winner - and all combining to finally convince the couple that Mrs Mungalu should make the trip to South Africa last week to claim his prize.

But after two days of travelling, Mungalu had to hear from staff at Arcadia's offices that her husband had not really won R50 000 - at least, "not yet", according to embarrassed staff who could give no reply when she asked what the firm meant "by telling me R50 000 was waiting for me". Roland Pulinckx, a director of the mail-order firm, said the promotional material sent to Mr Mungalu merely confirmed that he was one of the winners in a "draw of the month" promotion.

His response to the material automatically entered him in the "grand draw of the year" - to take place in December for a first prize of R50 000, said Pulinckx.

posted by a guy in 2013 posting all my personal information, definitely not a scam. should not be allowed to post my family and my details like that on the internet?
