Remove old garden trimmer head

I bought the 8mm head but the nut was to big for the 650 so i replaced it with the old nut that i took of, ll fixed and working again
Just check take the string holder of and in the center were the spring goes over is a hexagon plastic, that can be removes with a long nose pliers, just pull it out. the nut is inside there, take the new one out and replace with the old one, replace the hexagon plastic so that the bolt is nice and tight and screw on the head
Thanks I'll have a look when I get home, it just seems like the shaft on my motor is too short to reach the threads of the nut in the head but I will try with another nut.

EDIT: Just to add I am not sure what kind of head was on the machine but I do not think it was the original, as it had a screw from the top screwing it into a blue plastic piece that was adhered to the shaft. It is difficult to describe because most of the broken pieces are missing

I don't have any pictures on my phone except of the box lol

Yea same one
The 8mm one i bought had a hole that was to big so the piece on the shaft that was treaded just slip into it and it felt like it was not going in deap enogh, but when i replaced the nut the shaft cought on the treads and the shaft started to spin so i could not tighten it down, so i plugged it in and just gave a quick press on the power butten, and it screwed in all the way.
i did not see any blueplastic on mine, just the black

Maybe mine has had it's motor replaced in the past? Because the nut that was on the shaft was definitely M8 and not M6 I tried it on an M6 bolt I had in the garage. But it doesn't really make sense for the 650W model to have M8 does it. It is over 10 years old so maybe they used to have bigger shafts?

you got me

My bosch screwdriver set which comes with different bits including the T15 Torx bit, the screwdriver (holder) does not fit in the plastic casing holes. Now I have to go buy a torx srewdriver.

Well I went back to the lawnmower shop where I bought the replacement head from yesterday (only R20 more expensive than takealot). Yesterday they told me to rather bring it in before buying a head but obviously I didn't listen

He reckons the old design was easier to replace heads, granted if the blue plastic "spacer" wasn't farked like mine.

Apparently my machine has a head design that was discontinued in the late 90's and spares about 10 years ago. Solution, female to female spacer and some threaded rod from EIS across the road for R17.

I'll report back when I get home tonight.

that motor look different than mine, the shaft is shorter

That was the problem I encountered last night when trying to fit the new hub yes.

The guy said a new motor is about R200 less than a new machine

Right so my shaft extension plan seems to have worked, and now you can take the head off without taking the motor out.

I met a guy yesterday, he do his own gardening and his garden look like it should, but he does not believe in a weed eater, he only use a "skaapsker". What is it called in english?

Thats one way to do it.
Most economical way for sure. Another option would have been to trim the cooling fans from the new head and hope that this old motor's short shaft would reach the new head's thread.

I guess another option would be to remove the shaft and have a new one machined but I don't see that as particularly cost effective. This solution cost me R17 to make the old motor compatible with the current head design.

If it comes loose I could drill two holes through the spacer and tap thread for grub screws as well as apply some threadlocker.

Jesus I hate weed eaters.

Things never bloody work as they should.
Do you refer to fitting trim line perhaps ? I never seem to fit the line/string correctly. I looked at YT videos and am looping both of them through the notches correctly (I think) but every few minutes, I need to take it out and fiddle with it to get it working again.

Exactly that.

Every single one I’ve ever used does this kak.

Either the bump thing doesn’t work and gets stuck, or it just swallows the whole line and I need to open it up to manually feed it.

Also been down YouTube to make sure I’m not an idiot.

I see the Americans have this verimark type upgrade for an auto line feeder, but I’ve never seen it here.

I always feel like an idiot operating this thing. LOL - my 4.5 year old son shouted last month 'Papa - call Cobe - you are not getting it'. Cobe is townhouse gardener we occasionally use - he got a petrol version and doesn't seem to struggle so I am sure I am not getting it right. :)
