Removing paint protection shield

What’s the best way to remove this stuff from the bonnet of my wife's car? Heat?

Heat helps. I would use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun, heat gun can also do some damage to the paint if not done properly. The I would use those plastic applicators that they use for installation to help lift at some tight spots.
