Do you reallllly have to see a doc to remove stiches? I have 4 stitches that need to come out tomorrow. I don't really think it's worth paying a doctors bill just for him to cut and pull ...

ideas?

I always take mine out myself - friend's ones too.

I'm not too keen on removing staples though.

My father always removed mine himself...

I tried to help a boyfriend take his stitches out. I'm an absolute wuss but agreed to help cause he was struggling to do it himself (they were on the under side of his foot).

I psyched myself up then he pulled back and reacted as soon as I touched him so I freaked :/
Honestly, I'm useless at this type of thing. I can so see myself asking my future husband to deal with the inevitable skinned knees the kids will incur....

So yeah, long story short, I'd recommend taking it out at home but just make sure someone with a steady hand (and who doesn't freak at the sight of pulling something out from under your skin!) helps out :o

Just go to your local clinic - it's for free. Besides your doc shouldn't charge you for another visit because it's a follow-up. I wouldn't advise you to take the sutures out yourself unless your doc wants to see you again for a specific reason, e.g. to see if any complications have developed, such as an infection or the wound has not healed properly. If you do take your own sutures out make sure you sterilise whatever you're using.

I once saw someone removing stiches, had 4 on his thumb, he cut them all 4 open, and pulled the knots through the skin without looking, had to get stiches gain.

Dude...its soooo easy. Do it yourself, no hassles....you really dont need a doctor for that. I have taken stitches out my dogs and myself. Its the coolest feeling when you cut them and pull them out...like a piece of string is stuck in your flesh....and when it comes out...it kinda tickles. Have had some eina ones that were left in too long...that was a bit unpleasant...but seriously...its easy...not rocket science at all.

If you squeemish...it might not be a good idea to do it yourself though...

So Waaib, have you done the deed or did the doc do it? Your appointment was supposed to be today.

I was happy to do it myself but they were in my back so I needed a volunteer and no-one would do it for me. Ended up at the doc and his nurse took them out. No charge though. Just the hassle of waiting for the doc etc.

depends..
facial = don't mess with it, the skin is thin an can come apart if done wrong/to much force etc
remember to use disinfectant on scissors + tweezers used, you don't want an infection.

never knew they charge for removal btw, does he perhaps besides new clean up + new dressing, give stuff for scar removal?
my dad does mine but then he is my doc and strict about the no wetting, changing dressings(so no scab forms i.e. no darkening of skin) for facial stitches else it leaves scars/blemishes etc.

I removed my own on my forehead after I got stitched for being whacked with an oar :D
