Hi all,

I have a Vodafone Huwaei E220 modem which is unlocked. I intend to use my VirginBroadband sim card.

I had some issues connecting with the Huawei Mobile Connect dashboard software so I installed the VMC Lite dash from vodafone webiste. This software seems to be way worse, and although my modem is unlocked, the VMC software won't let me connect to any other network other than Vodafone.

SO.....how do I get rid of the VMC that I installed on the modem flash drive? It says it's read only and there's no remove/uninstall function.

All I want is the basic Mobile Connect software. I have this installed as standalone on my computer, but the VMC software blocks any other dash from working.

Thanks for any advice!

I suggest you download and install Huawei Mobile Partner from Huawei.com, choose the option to install it on the E220 as well as your PC.

PS: welcome to MyBroadband :).

Or just use MDMA :)

VMC hogs the port. You can start your dash (Mobile Connect) before VMC gets going or prevent it starting by using a little blocking app. I'll see if I can find it.

You can also just uninstall VMC from you machine and disable the drive letter for the E220 (or at least disable autorun so the install does not launch every time) and then run your preferred app.

True, MDMA will work for Adrian351 from Oz, but I was under the impression that Adrian351 might want to remove VMC Lite from the E220 itself, although disabling the drive letter will also do the trick.

Ah ok, I assume only mods can see country of origin as determined by IP?

I that case I could save him some trouble navigating the maze of a site that is Huawei.com and point him here. http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736

I can never remember the naming convention Mobile Partner vs. Mobile Connect, but I think the file dated 2008-03-20 (vista, xp) is what you are after.

On a side note I recently discovered an alternate Huawei site that seems a bit easier to find downloads on: http://www.huaweicommunication.com/

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

FINALLY got rid of the VMC software from my E220 and installed the Mobile Partner generic dash ic mentioned. Cheers

Previously for some reason, even when I closed the VMC software, it would stop the other dashes from recognising that the modem was connected and I'd get no signal. Then the install software wouldn't recognise the modem so wouldn't install. Thankfully that's over ;)

With Mobile Connect I get a strong signal, but now keep getting the Error 619 code....."Connection to remote computer could not be established". It seems to fail that last authentication step in the connection process.

I've triple checked all the settings, so I'll be onto Virgin again tomorrow. Frustrating!!

I'm actually trying to get on the VirginBroadband network in Australia.

Thanks

Yeah, lol..........that Huawei website is a shocker for finding stuff!!

It really doesn't lable the downloads either. I kept going for the latest file which was the firmware, but it was one of the older files that I needed for the actual dash setup.

For some reason one of my previous posts has been made invisible, so to paraphrase:

Ditched the VMC, FINALLY! Mobile Connect works well. Have strong signal. Just keep getting Error 619 code when connecting, "Connection to remote computer failed."

Seems to fail that last authentication step.

Triple checked settings, will call VirginBroadband again (In Aust)

Cool glad you got that solved. Check your APN setting. You normally have to set that manually with Mobile Connect/Partner.

My solution is simpler and more elegant :D
Besides, the drive letter thing comes back after a reboot doesn't it?

Don't see how loading another app to kill an app you don't want is more elegant (unless I misunderstood). I believe it does not come back after a reboot.

All sorted out!! Thanks to all of you guys for your real quick responses! Much appreciated.

Ended up installing the latest firmware, mobile partner dash, both from Huawei and got a system reset from my ISP.

http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736

For XP & Vista, the FW is the file that begins with HOST, and the dash (generic controller) is the file starting with UTPS.

So even though the modem was unlocked, VMC Lite software (dash) was another block within itself as it won't let you connect to another suppliers network. So NEVER install it as a work-around! Not sure if the original Huawei Mobile Connect dash was an issue?

So now up and surfing ;)

Thanks again.

The files beginning with HOST contain the Huawei Mobile Connect dashboard and the files beginning with UTPS contain the newer Huawei Mobile Partner dashboard.

The firmware update is a separate download which Huawei insist you must get from your network operator for 'security reasons'.

Yeah, the software lock is limiting. They need to spend some more time on VMC Lite, it has a mind of its own. If you have VMC on the device and HMP on the desktop, the two will clash and reserve the port. Then you have to disconnect and reconnect to free it.

How to diable the autorun

You can also just uninstall VMC from you machine and disable the drive letter for the E220 (or at least disable autorun so the install does not launch every time) and then run your preferred app.

I would like to diable the VMC autorun in my machine, but I c'ant find where is located in my Windows XP SP3
