Does anyone have comments about success or failure of removing Vodaphone from their cellphone?

It seems to be possible on various sites on the net for a small fee. I'd like to know if anyone has tried this and if they have succeeded.

Specific info about removing vodaphone from a K800i would also be great.

Dont know if it will help you, but read the sticky thread about me and my Motorola v360. I flashed it with new software. Vodafone is still there, but it doesn't take over my whole phone. It's just there. Why don't you ask vodacare to do it for you. I saw threads here about them doing it for free if the phone is still new. Otherwise ask mtn, maybe they can. Hope you get it done, cause vodafone branding sucks.

Why would you want to remove it from the K800, it doesnt "hurt" the phone in anyway, exept for the ugly icons.

I used to hate the Vodafone branding, but it's sort of grown on me now! I just de-branded a SE V600i and I think the Vodafone branding looks better than the rather dull basic SE icons!

Do be aware that de-branding your handset on yourself is not without risk! However, there are sites like www.got.bz for example where you can do this by buying access time to the GOT (GSM Online Tools) server on a per day, month or yearly basis. If you've only one phone to do the one day server access is quite good value. GOT supports the newer SE and Motorola handsets. One days server access is 2.99 Euro which is not unreasonable.

As a minimum you'll need a USB cable with the appropriate drivers setup.
The appropriate Client software downloaded from GOT.
A reliable (and reasonably fast) internet connection.
A brain uncontaminated by alcohol or other substance! This is important!!
An ability to read what is on the PC screen and not what you think you see!

Someone also posted here recently that his brother or someone he knows has a shop where they charge R50 to de-brand.

I also wouldnt mind getting mine done.

The icons are 75% of why I want to de-brand but I also get the feeling that the phones functionality has been limited by the software. Am I wrong?

Yip 100% wrong theres nothing missing or any functionality harmed by the Voda SW, even performance is not effected, the worst part would be the Voda sticker on the outside, but otherwise theres no internal problems, as for the Icons a good theme just makes the icons bearable and even unnoticed.

Pm me if you want some good themes;)

Thanks. I'll look at the themes as soon as the phone arrives.

Got the phone (K800i) last week. Not minding the branding so much. Hunting for themes now! The phone is fast! All mates who have a look at it comment how fast the menus etc are! awesome camera too.

I successfully removed it from my N73 and now have N73ME Firmware. Can be done for free (besides internet charges) and phone is working perfectly.
