The laptop that I just use for general browsing can't handle W7 and its not worth upgrading it for its minimal use but at the moment I am using XP SP3 on it and want to remove the W7 installation, physically from the HDD & from the boot up options
Its an Acer 4154LMi, 60GB HDD in 2 partitions with W7 on C and XP on D

I can only find instructions how to delete another pre Vista OS
If I try just delete the W7 Windows folder I get an error saying I cant delete FXSEXT.ecf
And seeing as W7 doesnt have a boot.ini I cant just edit W7 out of the boot up options, or can I?

can you not (in XP) reformat your C drive (the one with Win7 installed on it)? That should sort it ou!

How much ram does it have?

Anyways, just format the Win7 partition. Best way would be to delete the partition, resiz the existing XP partion to take up all the space. Might have to pop in XP Install CD to do a quick MBR fix.

Gparted CD can do this for you. Just defrag XP before you resize the partition.

1. Download EasyBCD, Uninstall the Vista/7 bootloader(use to restore XP) under the Manage Bootloader.
2. Right click on My Computer, select Manage, select Disk Management under Storag on the left hand side of the window.
3. Select the partition and delete/format.

To expand, your best bet is GParted, like ponder mentioned.

It only has 512mb RAM, I just used it to test out W7 before putting it on my desktop

I have tried to format by just right click > format but it just gives me a standard error that it cant complete the format
I'll try some of the apps mentioned, thanks for the suggestions

Go and buy yourself more ram. I just upgraded a similar Acer last Friday and it makes the worlds difference. I got a Patriot 1GB DDR2-800 SODIMM from Esquire for R215 ex VAT which is peanuts for the performance boost you get regardless of whether you are running WinXP or Win7. You could even get 2x1GB sticks if you want as the maximum it takes is 2GB in a 2x1GB configuration.
