hi Guys
I have a problem, when i download things at work i dont have resume capabilities, what could be the cause of this? i have tried orbit and idm, i know the host i download from allows for resuming as when i download at home i have no issues pausing and restarting from where i paused.

What could it be?

Thanks

Maybe they are running a proxy server at work.

I bypass the proxy but i still go through the firewall.

will try flashget and getright

HTTP downloads that are resumable require that the server accept and action to the REST (restart) command.
Obviously, the client doing the download (on your computer) must actually send the REST command.

The REST command has a parameter which tells the HTTP server from where to continue the download.
If the REST command is successful, the next command is RETR which begins the data retrieval.

FTP downloads that are resumable use a similar set of commands.

This has nothing to do with proxies or firewalls, though, some throughpass proxies are programmed to takeover the download themselves entirely. I have not seen these lately though.

1. The server you are downloading from must support resuming.
2. The software you are using to do the downloads must support resuming.

Also, note that the file you are downloading may in fact be coming from another server that does not support resuming. Some servers redirect your request to other download servers when they are too busy to handle the download themselves.

i.e. Before pausing a large download, be sure that is can in fact be resumed.

Try to use download clients that tell you if a download can be resumed.

Thanks tried flashget first and it works yay thanks

Thanks davemc, think orbit was just being silly cause its supposed to support resuming but its sorted:)

Thanks all
