Hello

So I have recently (1 week ago) bought the new Renault Captur Dynamique 66kw 900T

In all the articles I have read and the manual it claims a fuel efficiency of like 5.1 l/100km

I am just wondering how this is achieved

Ok yes I am still on the first tank and maybe the car needs to run itself in but at the moment I am sitting at 7.5 l/100km and I am definitely not driving the car "hard"

I am running in Eco mode and not even using the air con just to see if I can get his figure to come anyway close to what is advertised

Does anyone else have the Captur and if so what sort of fuel efficiency are you achieving?

The car in general drives ok, seems to drive better in Eco mode, the lag before the Turbo kicks in is a bit more noticeable when Eco mode is off

Thanks
Mark

Afaik - the quoted fuel economy figures are next to impossible to achieve in the real world.

What sort of driving are you doing? Highway or stop-start city traffic? Because the latter will destroy your fuel economy.

Look I realize I will never get the quoted figures as these are based on perfect conditions which like you say in the real world don't exist but 4.9 - 5.1 l/100km quoted vs 7.5 l/100km actual is quite a difference

My driving is town and short distances mainly, no open road or highway so yes this will have a negative impact but to me that should be like 6.0 l/100km still

You will probably get around 18-20km/l on the open road. 12-14km/l driving around town. Those specs they give with the fuel consumption is always off.

7.5 sounds about right for the driving you're doing, on open road you'll go down to 6 ish. I get 9 on my Cruze and it's claimed to be 6.6 which is impossible in stop and go driving

Suppose it depends on how the engine reacts to the different conditions I suppose.

In my car -when I lived close to work my fuel economy averaged around 7.8 l/100km - now that I travel substantially further and mostly on the highways that is down to around 6.6 l/100km

That figure can only be achieved at low altitude, on flat roads with no wind and on a cold cloudy day.

In order to optimise fuel efficiency you need to stay in the engine power band continually using the gears and throttle smartly.
Never pull off very fast or very slow, you need to drive at a nice medium speed, its hard to explain but you can feel where the engine is most efficient through accelerator feedback.

Rather use an app like fuelly to work out your l/100km. do this over a period of time and you'll get an accurate picture.

My i20 has a claimed consumption of 5.1 combined and i was able to achieve that a few times while driving like miss daisy :P
I spend around 2 hours in traffic every day and get an everage of around 5.5 so at least one manufacturer gave accurate figures.
