Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Renault Clio 197 gearbox. I am considering buying a 2010 Clio RS, but have heard so many horror stories about issues with the gearbox synchros (don't want to buy a ticking time bomb). Is there anyway the gearbox can be upgraded to avoid these issues in the future? Also, what would be the costs of having it repaired (stock and/or upgraded)?

Great car. Your best bet is to ask these guys. http://www.rocsa.co.za/ . Join their forum and get in touch with people around your area that can point you in the direction of a good mechanic. Renault's of old have left a sour taste In many south africans mouth, but the newer ones are pretty decent.

2010 is pretty old, and no doubt that RS has been driven hard.
Also it's a Renault... It's French. notoriously unreliable and expensive to maintain as they age. I'm surprised that one is still going.

The 2007 cars were the ones with the issues. I had a 2008 that I drove for a bit - had 200k km when I sold it and still runs well (I’ve stayed in touch with the new owner).
2010 will be a Clio RS 200 facelift, not a 197.
