I am thinking about buying one of these - the 1.6 Expression model.
I'm looking for people who own one of these and can share their experience.

Thanks

I test drove one, well the one with ABS and EBS and found it acceptable. It not am amazing car, and neither is it crap. I didn't like the position of the gear lever relative to the position of my seat. It had to stretch my arm a little to reach it, and the angle of the incline felt off. It is quite worth the price, but I would rather pay the extra +/- R5k for the better model. Have a look at Renault's website and compare the models.

Go for a test drive. If you are a girl then you may like the nice big boot. Heh.

Speak to anyone who was in Cape Town and used an AVIS car during the December holidays.

Every second car in Cape Town was a Y registration Sandero...could only have been AVIS specials...all the drivers appeared to be smiling as well. :D

You looking at new or used?

Yeah new...

haha well I am a lass and boot space is important for my all son's cricket gear :)
thanks for sharing your experience.

I'm wondering if there's anyone who owns one that can maybe shed some light on service costs, build quality, general issues / complaints / praise for the car

They were smiling because they're on their way back to Avis.

good car... I own a BMW and can easily criticize small cars but i hired this car and drove from Welkom to Harrismith and back ... I tipped Avis when i dropped it :) ... Renault is never a bad car BTW, just the market, parts and maintainable ... But driving these cars its awesome ..i owned a Megane b4 and i loved it

Don't worry too much about spare parts with this car. It is manufactured in South Africa, so it will not only cost local prices but be easy to source too.

thanks for your feedback - it's much appreciated

To be brutally honest, and from my own ownership experience. I'd stay clear of Renault and Peugeot.
I once thought they were all good reliable vehicles, but frankly they are not.

I've recently posted the JD power survey results in a new thread here.
There's a reason those brands are near the bottom along with Fiat. I'd stay away, and is the reason why I did express my sarcasm towards Renault earlier.

I'd beg you not to go there, yes it's good value for money, yes nothing may go wrong, yes there are happy customers. I'm just not one of them.
But I've learnt not to take the chance anymore despite how tempting the value for money may be, and the promises Renault make. Did you know there's no warranty on warranty replaced parts? I didn't until I wanted to replace a part that was previously replaced under warranty. I had to pay.

I stick to the JD survey results so that I lessen my chances of having a problem with a particulalr make and/or model.

Thanks very much for your insight. Was this your Sandero that the warranty item was not replaced? And what part was it?
The links you posted are quite interesting, however looking at the vehicles higher up the list, I either can't afford or are not very useful to me. Will maybe check out the Nissan Tiida as well

Interesting that you mention the Nissan, as the Sandero and Logan are sold on other markets as Nissans - all seemed to be aimed at the same generic third world market, which is by no means a bad thing if you are simply looking for a set of reliable wheels. That is ALSO one of the reasons AVIS own half the stock!

There's always preowned. Avoid the new buyers knock, and even get yourself a Honda Jazz.
The problem occured at Peugeot. Not a sandero, but again I stand by the manufactueres index. After having two Hondas, I've never had issues.
