I've wasted half an hour trying to find accurate information on renewing my driver's licence in Edenvale. I've seen posts and websites (including .gov.za) with costs ranging from R140 to R500, instructions to bring 4 ID photos.. so much misinformation I do hope someone has accurate info for Edenvale (I presume it varies from centre to centre). I would phone them... but I've tried that before without luck. In a nutshell, afaik I just need my ID and cash or credit card. Is this correct? And how much does it cost nowadays? Tia

If you go there, at reception they will give you the application form and a checklist.

My guess though: R250, current licence card, Id book, 4 b&w id photos. And a pen if you don't want to wait around for one.
Oh and about 2.5 hours of your time.

Did my renewal at Edenvale. Cost is R228 if your old drivers card didn't expire. If it did expire bring 1 ID photo and R300 to get your card renew and a temporary license.

Remember your ID and your old drivers license card. I went in the week and it took ± 1 hour. Got my new card in 6 weeks.

I use a company called dontq. It's a bit more expensive and because it is a driver's license they still take you to the Bedfordview licensing department, BUT you'll have exactly everything you need and needn't worry about going back for collection. They'll phone you six weeks later, you go to their office and pick it up.

Did my change of ownership for my car through them as well. Gave them the papers and everything just magically happened.

Did mine yesterday in Randburg.

3.5 hours in the queue.
1) R228 to renew the card. Cash only.
2) R72 for a temporary (mine had expired). Cash only.
3) Everyone queuing had to provide a photo which was stapled to the application form. If you need a temporary then you'll need a second photo. They do take digital photos but these are for the new card.
4) Don't bother getting a letter from an optometrist / optician saying you can drive without glasses - they don't care. You HAVE to do their eye test.

Edenvale is top notch when it comes to renewals. In and out in under 20min with a few people in front of me.

I think it was just under R300 for everything.

Thanks for all the replies. I was aware that Edenvale had jacked up their service astronomically. And it's nice to know in advance that it only costs R228 and that one doesn't need photos anymore.
Recap: in Edenvale it should take 20-30 minutes, as long as your licence hasn't expired. You need (1) R228 cash (2) old driver's licence (3) ID (4) wait 6 weeks and contact them if necessary.

Update

Just did it at Bedfordview today.
Nicol Road, opposite the Fire Station.

Waiting Time: 3.5 hours
Queue: First part is outside in the sun, standing. Second half is seated inside.
Cost: R228 for the license, R72 if you need a temporary License.
Friendliness: Very helpful
Requirements:
1) Green Application Form (you can get this at the info desk and fill it in while you are waiting).
2) Cash for the fees
3) 4 Colour photos (You may not need all of them).
4) Your ID and a copy of your ID.
5) Extra cash in case you have outstanding fines
6) Your glasses (if you drive with glasses).
Process:
1) Get Green App Form and get in line
2) From outside you will be directed to be seated inside
3) From the main waiting room, you move to a side waiting room (for the eye test)
4) Do the eye test, consists of moving a joy stick in response to lights and patterns.
5) Give thumb prints, left and right.
6) Sign the digital reader - your signature gets added to the card.
7) Move from there to the payment window (another small queue).
8) The Clerk checks for outstanding fines - Go and pay those at the Metro window if you have to.
9) Pay the R228
10) Wait 4 weeks to go and pick up your card.

Other Services: You can also do driving tests and pay vehicle Licenses and fines.
