Rental Advice - First time Rentee

Gautrain maybe an option for one of you? Even the bus? A lot nicer having time to sit and chill instead of shouting at fellow roadusers.

could be, I've never explored that option, I'll look into it.
 
If I had R7k to piss away on rent every month...I wouldn't and buy my own property instead.

Yeah small price to pay long term.

I did just that five years ago an just make almost 400k on the place I bought then.

Now I'm moving into the place I really wanted in the first place and started off with a monstrous deposit instead of 20 years of hardship.

7k is a lot of money to just give away.

I'd probably get a place of my own after a year, financially, I won't be ready to buy for another 12 months.

Just don't end up paying someone else's bond out of convenience.

Only one thing worse than renting...buying a place you can just barely afford.

You want to pay the bank back in less than 10 years otherwise not do it at all.
 
Fourways traffic is TERRIBLE! You're not going to get a nice 2 bedroom place for that price in the circle, you're going to pay minimum R9K and that's for a small place. Also, you're going to get traffic anywhere you stay, so just find a place that suits your needs and deal with the traffic.

and that is exactly why I'm not buying right now. I want to use those 12 months to pay off car and save a huge deposit so that I am in a position to free my purchase in 10 years. I can't bear the thought of paying 7-8K p/m for 20 years. It kills me just thinking of it.
