Renting laptops

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good service provider to rent laptops from, let's say, on a 2 year contract? I've heard of someone doing this. Perhaps it is a viable alternative to purchasing your own, and having huge cash outflows every 2 years or so? So, at the end of 2 years, you just swap it in for an upgraded version?

Why dont you just finance them then you can get the best of both worlds , discount on the number of laptops and monthly installments.
Tax rebates ETC.

Best of all, you don't have to return the laptops after two years. Purchasing/Financing the laptops is the best option.

I'd suggest buying outright rather than rentals. Keep them in a good condition, take out three-year warranties and sell them off after two years to help finance the next round of upgrades. You may have to consider doing this in stages though, because upgrading an entire network of computers every two years with completely new devices and software is quite an expense and a big job for the techies who'll be looking after them.

Is there any reason why desktops aren't considered? Do you have a volume license agreement with Microsoft SA?

Thanks for the well reasoned reply.

I should perhaps have been clear in the OP - it is just for myself, not for a whole office or company.

I need to be very mobile. I am hoping to find a 'slim' yet powerful laptop /ultrabook somewhere. If it is too expensive, maybe I can rent. I realise slimness and power often trade off on each other. Maybe there is a Samsung with SSD and 8GB ram I can find somewhere ...
