Hey Guy's,

I have an old 40" LCD ByDesign that was struck by lightning, i think it might just need the power supply replaced or something.

I would like to fix the TV to have it put up on the wall in a spare bedroom that will usually get used by my little girls cousins that sleep over, so it would basically just be used now and then so i don't see the need to purchase a brand new TV for that.

Anybody know of any good TV Repair services (that will not cost me the price of a new TV) in and around the West of JHB (Roodepoort, Wilropark, Heldekruin etc.) that will be able to check it out and fix for me?

I contacted a place called "Barnards TV Services" on Ontdekkers, for a quote, waiting to hear from them now. I also called Hifi Corruption, and they want to charge me R350 upfront before anything gets done for delivery (to wherever it gets repaired) and labour and then a further cost for what ever work needs to be done, and if they can not repair it, they'll decline the quote and send the unit back.

Yeah, i know.... But it was a good TV when i had it 2 years ago, until Lightning struck it.

Now i just want to use it as a Spare room TV.

(Or are you saying i incorrectly spelled the name of the TV?)

i can refer you to a place in springs, but that might be a bit out of the way,

they do repair work, if the value of the repair is less than R350 they just go ahead, so 99% of the time ( but some coincidence) its always been R350 for anything i sent in

Just the name, I always had a chuckle at the way they spelt it.

Hope you come right.

If you have content home insurance, you could try your insurance company. They might even replace it as happened to a friend.

TBH, im not very familiar with springs, and it is a bit far out, but thanks for the heads up though.

I got a call back from Barnards TV Services on Ontdekkers, and i was quoted somewhere in the region of R690 for the repair, and it could possibly be done the same day if i come in early.

If you have some DIY skills/know-how these can be easy and cheap to fix... In most cases it's power supply related. And in most power supply related cases it's either the fuse (surge of current) or electrolytic capacitor (voltage spike).

Cost me R2 (new capacitor) and less than 30 minutes to fix my Plasma TV:
Samsung TV power board-blown capacitor

A 5 minute video tutorial can adequately teach you how to de-solder and solder.
