Hi guy

So last week lightning took out my router and blew open the phone socket. Logged a fault with Telkom but it's taking them forever to come out and fix it so I want to see if it is possible to repair it myself.

This is the connection box that comes from the telephone wire into the house

Where can I buy those types of connection box as well as the phone socket?

Is there a Telkom yard nearby? Or even an exchange building with some Telkom vehicles parked there? Go in and ask them if they have a spare one lying around for you. Have you fault ref handy and tell them you want to repair it yourself!

I'm pretty sure they will give you one... (I know the PE guys will :p )

PS. exchange is on the corner of Van Buuren and Harper

I reckon you'll also find there's melted copper between your house and the strike point.

Possible to just tape the wires together and test though or wire an old telephone cable to it.

Easy fix... I've dealt with a few of those cases myself (it's just a copper pair, for pete's sake). But best to let Telkom do it rather if you're not 100% sure of what you are doing. What Sinbad said though - there's a good chance you've got a melt somewhere else outside the demarc. If they need to replace the cable, try offer them some Cat5 as it is better than the standard untwisted telco wire they often use

Easy way to test, hold each of the 2 wires in one hand & get the missus to dial the landline# from a cellphone.

Thank you guys. Will try what Mickey said or might as well wait for technician to come.

Is it wise to do this and demand a technician to come to my house and fix a fault?

It's been 1 month and I'm just really getting pissed off now.

Demand? Eish, do that and they'll kick your arse out of there.

It is most likely that they have not even received your fault ref from the dispatchers yet.

Rather be courteous, have your fault ref handy and have a pleasant chat with them.

OK maybe not demand but rather ass kiss, also is one allowed to go in or must I wait by the gate until someone comes in or out?
