Repairing a Scratched Cd

Try the toothpaste and if it doesn't work then you know to try something else :-/
 
I heard that the silver cleaning stuff (similar to brasso) works.

easy - take some of that very rough sandpaper and use it to remove the scratch, in fact you should use it on all your CD's to remove and prevent scratches, it really works :D ;)

Better still if all fails try paint remover. Sounds like something that could work. If it can remove paint, it can remove scratches :p

I think that silver cleaning stuff is called Brillo, not to sure
 
find a friend with the same cd. whilst they are not watching swop cd's. Your cd no longer has a scratch. works everytime :)

Dont say things like that... people might really believe you... knowing some people's brilliance...

i read a link from digg once that suggested Brasso
they say make strokes from teh center of CD to edge for 15 minutes while putting more brasso

the idea being you remove the thin layer of plastic to the same level as the scratch. then copy the data off. it's meant to be a solution just to get the info off not repair the CD... i think that is how it works...... a sieve holds water better then my brain holds information...

Silvo.

Yes, takes quite long, but it does work to a point. The data isnt on the plastic side where the scratch is, that's all protective layer. the data is on the print side under all the text, under the Aluminium layer. Oh and DONT use Thinners, Meths or Alcahol, and don't leave the CD lying in water. Causes the Aluminium Layer to lift.
