Replacement Camera

Hi Guys, my camera got stolen, and now I need to replace it. Luckily it was insured. It was a Sony, not to sure of the model number. Think it was the DSC-H10. Insurance should pay out in the region of 5-6k. From what i understand, I would need to buy another Sony. Could anyone recommend a model? I would like to maybe look at an SLR camera....

I dont think they'll make you stick with Sony just because that was what you lost - you might want to double check with them.

kk, will check, but with my surround sound system that was also stolen, they said I must get quotes only for Sony systems. The guy is coming tomorrow though, so will double-check.....

Would you recommend another make? (Fairly noob to the camera world, but loving it!!)

Sony's alpha range of DSLRs are very nice. I have no idea what they cost though. Seen some really good reviews on the web for them. I'm a Canon user myself but I think most will agree that there is not a lot between the new Canon/Nikon/Sony/etc/etc now days. Happy shopping.

Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to shopping, hehe....Quite a few items that need to be replaced. Guess there is a positive side to a house break-in, but still a bitch...

Actually there a number of threads talking about lenses and camera prefs on the forum which might be a worth read. You'll also find that what brand of camera you choose will be based on what lenses you want or have. Although this shouldn't be an issue for you. Also before you pick what camera you want, go to a good camera shop and hold the unit. I personally don't like the weight, or lack thereof, of some of the new units. I like my heavy old Canon 20d even if it is only a 8.2MP camera.
