So, I've searched the forums and net and haven't found anything regarding the matter, but...

What happens if the Telkom-supplied ONT is damaged in some way and needs to replaced? (Say, a surge through Eskom or a liquid spill).

Where and how does one actually get replacement devices? Through Telkom?

Normally GPON is provider dependent...IE if Telkom uses Huawei headend then the ONT should also be huawei unfortunately...the interop between vendors is limited for now. Where can you buy GPON ONT's...no idea, never seen one advertised in SA

Mine got hit by lightning, luckily I had the contact details of a Telkom techie on my phone who I then Whatsapp'd and asked him for a replacement ONT.

You basically need to log a fault with Telkom, they will first check the exchange, if there isn't any problems they'll come to your premises to test your line and your ONT device. Once they see it's faulty, they'll replace it for you with a new one and activate it again on your exchange via the serial number on the box of the new ONT :)
