Replacement HDD for MacBook

Koffie, what external case are you using?

I have several of these. They're cheap, well built, no flimsy connectors, metal shell so they don't trap heat inside.

Lately I've discovered these ones. They're much more expensive, but come with *two* FireWire ports (the pics on the website appears outdated), so you can daisy-chain them, and they have a power input (though no adapter). You don't get the enclosure separately - only with a hard disc, so it takes a bit more planning when buying. Fortunately I have use for notebook drives

I want to use my old drive as an additional backup. Will any external 2.5'' case work, or do you need one specific for 9.5mm height drives?

Which are the 9.5mm drives? The regular notebook ones, or the thicker "media applications" ones? I don't think either of these can handle the thicker ones.

If I remember correctly I was the one who was going to get this. I still am, I'm just waiting for the drives to actually become available. No one has stock, anywhere.

Sorry thought it was Bwana, keep us posted please. I did do a local search and managed to find a shop that seemed to have stock R1600 does that sounds right ? Whether they had physical stock is another story.

That's a bit much. Should be closer to R1100-1200.

Anyway, I won't be able to report on the white MacBook + 7200rpm 500GB drive compatibility, since I don't have the white MB anymore. The MBP I have now is widely reported to accept this drive.
