Currently have a 2016 iPad Pro 9.7" 128GB (A1674) WiFi/Cell with an Apple pencil . Lovely tablet ,good features, ...but battery is starting to get weaker. Tests shows it to be around 70% capacity. So I had a look at WeFix It... replacement battery is R899. Sound good, pre-booked it online. Got a phone call later telling me that I'll have to accept an additional quote of R5900 for screen replacement just in case they break it while installing the battery !! (Yes, I know the screen gets removed in the process). Needless to say I cancelled the booking. Not about to pay R7000 for a new battery. I'd rather "donate" it to my son (he's got the original Air which is stuck on IOS 9) .

So I'm looking for a replacement... the new iPad 8 looks decent and is also compatible with my 1st edition pencil , which is important . Not too fussed about WiFi only, since I can hotspot from my phone if need be . Same goes for camera specs. To get the same, I'll have to look at the Air , which is a lot more $$, and I'll have to buy 2nd edition pencil. Haven't made much use of the camera over the past 4 years, so it wouldn't be that much of a trainsmash . Pro 11 is obviously nice... at double the price :)

Any comments about the 8 or anything else ?

I’m in the same boat need to replace my 2013 iPad Air. Battery life is poor and it’s slow but still works.

Waiting for the new air to be released here than will decide which one to get, the iPad 8th gen or the new air.

The new air has the same chip as the new iPhone 12 A14 bionic whereas the 8 has the A10.

So really depends on your use and needs and budget as well.

Budget... as little as possible :D As I've said above "...... I'll have to look at the Air , which is a lot more $$, and I'll have to buy 2nd edition pencil" ...

The pencil is nearly half the price of a 32Gb 8.

Yikes!

Yip... ridiculous. Hence my "need" to hang on to my existing one :) Will probably have a look here in future and maybe get one imported or brought with, or get the Apple pencil the same way ($99 and $129) ... a lot cheaper than the local R2299 and R2999 :)
