Hi and thank you for your help.

Fibre connection

My current router has an intermittent problem with the wifi. It randomly drops the connection - cable connection is perfect.

Current router is TP-Link Archer C20 AC750.
  1. Had a look around and this is a very cheap router compared to others.
  2. Can I replace it with any other wireless dual band router?
  3. I have a TP-Link TL-WR845N at home. Can I replace the Archer with sort of the same as the WR845N? The ISP sort of recommend that we buy through them but then again it will be some cheap thing.
  4. For some reason I cannot access the current router to see the settings. Address is the normal 192.168.8.1 When trying I get this error:
    "This site can’t be reached
    192.168.8.1 refused to connect.
    Try:
    Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
    ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
  5. But, I can access it through the Tether App but then cannot access settings? Any suggestions?

Thank you for your advice so long.

Thanks.
Supersonic
Not sure about Supersonic. Could be they locked the router down.

Not a ideal solution, but you can run a cable from the Lan port to another router with a Wan port that has better WIFI.

Open up your command prompt - WindowsKey+R
type in cmd. Hit enter
This will open a black window with text
Type in ipconfig - hit enter
Look for your "Default Gateway"

That should be the ip to use to access your router

Thanks. I had the router's IP address, I just couldn't get in. I tried to connect via WiFi but couldn't. Had to use a cable.

I also have the same issue. Network drops randomly. I had a tenda f9 but I replaced it with a Huawei ax3 and still got the same issue. The cable is also new. I'm with Vuma and Afrihost. Don't want to sound like a dick but I pay R1050 for 100/100. I want stable internet:(

I solved this by getting a decent Wi-Fi 6 (asus) router and usb (aslo asus) adapter which actually supports it for my laptop.

It was a combination of **** signal from my old tp link and not so good built in wifi adapter.

So, next question is how many walls and distance between you and the router. Another option is to setup a mesh.

Of course you have also measured the 'wifi jungle' to see if your current channel is dirty with other signals. So there's not one silver bullet to magically solve it.

ps. I pay 1400 for my 500/250. Hopefully I don't sound like a dick either, but have stable wifi finally.

I ordered another ax3 to create a mesh network. Hopefully that helps, otherwise I'm going to have to fork out real money to get the premium stuff:cautious:

I will have to get more information about how to create a mesh.
