Replacement - run flat tyre

On the way home I got an immediate puncture. Heard a rumble from the rear and got a notification on the dash.

They are run flat tyres, so I managed to drive home OK, but still need to get it repaired tomorrow morning. Does anyone know a good place to get cheap but good brand name replacements, and at what cost? HiQ / SupaQuick?

I probably have to do both rear tyres for even wear. Great way to start the weekend.

/Car is a E87 BMW 1 Series.

Where are you located? What tire brand and size?

Cape Town - I think they're 225 R17. Definitely Bridgestone. Maybe it's repairable, but last time I had a slow puncture, they said run flats are only repairable if there is a small puncture in the tyre's road surface contact area.

This sounds like a full on flat which happened almost instantly. Will assess the damage in the morning :(
 
You can plug runflats, the dealers often try to sell you a new tyre but they can be plugged just like regular tyres.
Surprisingly BMW dealers are the cheapest place to get replacements.

Had it plugged about a year ago - R250 repair... slow puncture. But this sounds like a complete failure. Also the warning icon on the instrument console changed from a yellow low pressure warning before, to an immediate red flat this time round.

Can't see any physical damage, but will only probably be able to see that tomorrow morning.

But thanks, will phone BMW for a quote. :)

Probably won't be cheap either way.

Not the last time I checked by a quite a large margin, the stealers only do one thing and that's rip you a new one at every turn. Like anything else just shop around.

Many BM's now come with run flats as oem and failure to use run flats equals voiding the drive train warranty, eeish.

Nicely avoided, the R7k that is that you would have had to fork out to get 2 new matching run flats.
 
The last time I swapped out run flats for the Beemer, 16" Michelins set me back R1300 apiece. They seem to last pretty well. The 17" ones weren't that much more expensive when I looked at prices.

Quote over the phone for Bridgestone 17" runflats was R2,199. I bet you can get them cheaper depending on the place, and your negotiation skills.

Luckily all that was required was a plug.
 
That's not much more than normal tyres, have they come down in recent times, more cars using them?

I was helping my BIL find runflats for his X3, best price was around R3500 per tyre, I can't remember the size but they couldn't be much bigger than 17"

I think an X3's tyres are a lot bigger than the 1 Series. A mate of mine spent R22,000 on replacing all 4 tyres on his X5 which he subsequently sold. :eek:

Wait could have been the x1, it's the baby hatchback X series
