Replacing Desktop with Notebook - Recommended?

Well I am doing my post grad degree at the university of pretoria... Hows that work then Pada?

You'll have to ask the IT department if they can source Dell machines for you.

A couple of my friends have done this at Stellenbosch University, as well as a friend of mine who is working at Metropolitan.
I haven't done this myself, so I can't say much more than this...

Since you're going to use it as a desktop replacement, budget for an external monitor, keyboard, mouse setup - it will make it so much more enjoyable to use when you are at home.

I totally agree, was just pointing out the mobility issue as a potential negative, as you originally stated you move around a lot. My ideal 17" screen is 1920 X 1200. Great for the CAD stuff.

I have a G73 and 1920*1080 is a bit too high a res for a 17". I'd have preferred 1600*900 to be honest. You can always plug in an external.

I'd definitely agree on you with that one! I have a 17" LCD with my Dell Inspiron 9400 which has a resolution of 1920x1200 and it is just that tad too high. I would've preferred 1680x1050. My brother's 15.6" Dell laptop also has a resolution of 1920x1200 which is way too high for that size of screen, so he's using his external 24" LCD 24/7.

Wow... Good to know since I have sourced this:
