Replacment TV speaker

I'm looking for a replacement speaker for my Samsung 40A650. Seemingly it is an odd size, as I haven't been able to find anything (and the Samsung replacement is over R400 through Screenvision)

45mm x 130mm, 8 Ohm, 10 W, 37mm deep.

Anybody know where in Gauteng (or online) I could find for this? Scotronics is not answering their phone, must still be closed.

does your TV have audio out? Might be easier just to port it to an external system?

It does, and it is set up this way, but I don't want to have to power up the AMP every time I want to watch TV.

Plus it bugs the hell out of me that my TV is "broken" ...

OK, ja... I hear you.

Is it not possible then to take it to a TV repairman and let him "jimmy" it to take another size speaker? Cos really.. at the end of the day it doesn't matter what size speaker it takes as long as it is roughly the same or similar?

Whereabouts are you? I know a guy in South Joburg/Alberton who can fix just about any TV.

You should be able to get a replacement speaker at any electronics shop for less than R50.Don't ask for a tv speaker just take your faulty one and ask for a similar replacement.

Your size is 5 inch.

Just make sure you get the same impedance (8 Ohm), and fairly close to 10 Watt (this is not critical, especially since the 10W you're quoting doesn't stipulate nominal or maximum). The dimensions and depth of the speaker are not important, just try for something about the same size, and ensure you get a full-range speaker, not a tweeter. 50 bucks should be plenty

TV speakers are crap... even on the best TV's they go quickly.

I would go for an external system.

I have it taken apart (it is really easy to get to the speaker). The speaker fits into a molded plastic "holder", that is attached to the rest of the set by the back cover screws passing though it. The molded bit is shaped to accommodate the shape of stock speaker exactly.

It is an option to "make" a cheap equivalent speaker fit, but there is no way I am mangling the insides of a set I paid RK17 for just over a year ago to get it done - much less paying somebody else to do it :erm:

Nope - I've been all over - it is an odd size (physically). That's why I'm posting here.

A1 Radio, I have sourced many a TV speaker form them for less than a meal for 1 :)
