I tried searching for a thread on the exact topic, but I didn't find anything recent, or exactly what I'm looking for, so hopefully this isn't a duplicate...

I wanted to find out (and perhaps compile a list of up to date resources) of what is the best way to report SMS spam. I'm on the Do Not Contact list, and this has helped significantly in reducing SMS spam, but I still get the odd SMS every now and then. Reporting it on WASPA has proven successful in the past, but the problem is that they can't do anything when it's from a "private" number belonging to one of the mobile providers.

So what is the best way of reporting SMS spam to someone like Vodacom? I only found a page for reporting "scam" SMS's, but not specifically spam.

Below is some helpful links:

WASPA Spam/Scam reporting: https://waspa.org.za/report-spam/
Find the mobile network from a number: https://www.porting.co.za/PublicWebsite/
DMA Opt-Out Registration: https://www.nationaloptout.co.za/
Finding the owner of a short code: http://www.smscode.co.za/

The DMA list does squat.

WASPA nowadays just facilitates an unsubscribe without addressing the underlying unwanted spam problem.

Perhaps I'm wearing a tinfoil hat saying this but I've always been concerned that these lists might have the opposite effect. That rather than ensuring I no longer get spam I actually verify my details for increased spam. I get spam, but I wouldn't really say it's a terrible amount or a great inconvenience so I'd rather just live with the little it is at the moment instead of potentially making my problem worse by trying to remove what isn't really a problem to me now.

Well, from my experience, I was receiving a bunch of spam SMS and telemarketing calls until I signed up. Afterwards the number was reduced significantly from a few every month, to one or two every year. It's only recently I'm now getting about 1 every month or 2, but they don't seem mass marketing from a proper organization, but rather individuals and spammers that wouldn't abide by the DMA and Do Not Contact lists anyways. So personally it has helped.

Not my experience.

My spammers are cell companies and other corporates who aquired and use my details illegally. They then farm it out to mass SMS organisations like CellFind or similar.
