Hi,

Is there someone I could speak to regarding obtaining a personalized phone number for personal use? I have never heard of this and I don't know why this is not a thing.
@Ockie , Can you assist?

No. Only thing you can do is either convert a existing Vodacom prepaid number into a contract and keep same number, or port a existing number on another network over to Vodacom and keep same said number. Other than that, the system chooses a number randomly and assigns it. Even if you reqeust a number change for whatever reason, the system will give us a list of number to choose from. You cannot make up your own number.

There has to be a person in a higher up position that can help me with this. I cannot believe that this is 100% impossible.

Nah don't think it's impossible. I've heard of it being done before. But I think it was via altech.

I would also be interested in this.

There is a specific Vodacom phone number that I want, and if I dial it, it says that it doesn't exist. I'd really love to get my hands on the number.

On a slightly different note, is it possible to buy a person's phone number from them? If someone has a number that I want, can I get it transferred to me?

Strange request.. What witchcraft are you up to?

I have a project I'm working on, and the specific phone number spells the project name so would be cool as a support number.

If I can't get the number from Vodacom, maybe a similar number can be transferred to me from someone who is already using it (I hope that makes sense)

I went to Vodacom today to ask for a number and they said it was not possible, even though the number is not in use.

This definitely was possible a long time ago - 20 years ago my company requested and got sequential numbers when we ordered a bunch of phones. And I knew of companies whose number spelled out the company name (or a version of it).

There obviously is no technical issue with this, so they are either lazy to do it or have some obscure reason for refusing to do it.

I don't understand why you need to talk to someone about getting a personal phone number for personal use if you can purchase a temporary phone number.
I don’t understand why Aazam had to post the same message four times in a row…that’s even more of a mystery

Yes you can. But it's not easy.

I've twice had numbers of my choice from Vodacom and Telkom. In both cases I chose cell and landline numbers that were identical but for the three-digit area code - once when I lived in Johannesburg, and again when I emigrated to the Southern Cape.

While in Joburg, we had three numbers identical in the last seven digits, differing only in the area prefix, from Telkom (011) home landline, Vodacom (082) my mobile, and Cell-C (084) mobile for my wife.

There's no specific department or process to follow, nor any specific person to speak to. Rather, you must use your initiative and ingenuity to work the organisation.

I first researched what numbers were not used by existing subscribers, and then approached the phone service providers. In my cases, the landline digits 4-5-6 allocated by Telkom for my suburb is where I started in finding unused mobile numbers.

Would you mind describing your process a bit. We are setting up a Crisis text line and would like an easy to remember and recall number for our NGO.

It must be possible. If you listen to local radio stations their whatsapp numbers almost all contain some digits according to their call sign frequency.

Number still available ... but a rather unfortunate hand was dealt to you.

I guess you could say life gave you lemonz ...

I contacted Vodacom support in this regard and they seem to agree with @Ockie . If you manage it pull it off, somehow, do let me know.
