An Australian researcher has been working on an algorithm that will reduce electromagnetic interference in ADSL lines and potentially make broadband connections 100 times faster.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, if this technology is successfully commercialized the speed ceiling for ADSL would be closer to 100Mbps as opposed to the current 1 to 20 Mbps.

Dr Papandriopoulos, the researcher in question, acknowledges that other researchers are hacking away at the same problem but says that his project is more practical and easier to implement which may be why it is attracting so much attention.

If he is able to find equipment vendors and everything goes to plan the technology should be implemented within 2 to 3 years.
