Ok so there's a lot of hullabaloo about reseller hosting in South Africa, typically around the exorbitant data transfer costs and with some local providers it seems that storage costs are also an issue.
How does one who is very new to all of this and keen on entering the reseller hosting market make a choice as to whether to keep it local or go international?

Well we currently use WebAfrica, and their new Reseller Hosting by Utilisation model is great, except for the exorbitant disk space costs, at 30c per MB / R300 per GB / R30,000 per Terabyte   Note that there is NO bundled diskspace - you are forced to buy disk space at this price.

For business clients, it just makes sense to host locally. It is faster, and less prone to dowtime due to undersea cable breaks. Yes local hosting is more expensive, but is worth it, and most of our clients don't mind paying extra for local hosting once they understand the implications. Local hosting is important, especially for email access.

We don't need more local companies with overseas servers. There are tons of ISPs doing this already, and 100s or even 1000s of resellers who are reselling white lable hosting solutions from overseas.

Also, the cost of bandwidth isn't such a big issue anymore. Most of the big ISPs have already slashed their rates. Unfortunately, WebAfrica is the only reliable ISP with local Windows Hosting and SQL Server 2005+, at a decent price. But their disk space cost is way too much.
