Howzit guys,

So i'm doing an investigation into this and wondering if anyone has experience in doing reseller hosting.

Basically i want to offer clients Windows & Linux based hosting options. Has anyone dealt with good companies with regards to this?

Trawling the web and there are thousands of these that come up which makes it rather difficult to choose. Personal opinions are better.

Any information would be great !

Edit: I have done searching on the forums but a lot of the companies offer say 60gb of HDD space for ALOT per month, which is kinda ridiculous if you plan on hosting websites with big DB's and/or document repositories. Is VPS a better option to go for then?

Support is also key! i've just dealt with a hosting company which lacks it and it is extremely
frustrating.

There's ton of shared reseller hosting.

Lowendtalk.com / lowendbox.com / webhostingtalk.com should have you covered with VPS / DEDI / Shared hosting.

You'd have more control if you got a VPS / Dedi and cPanel license and did it yourself though, but that takes a bit of know how and WHMCS for billing etc...

Thanks jsheed! I'll check em out.

On the VPS, is it usually more cost effective to go this route (even if it takes a while to learn it) or better to start with reseller hosting. It will be small at first, lets say, 10-20 clients.

If you don't know what you're doing then I suggest reseller hosting.

Then spin up a VPS in your spare time , look at cPanel / WHCMS / SolusVM (if you're going to be offering VPS services later).

For shared hosting I'd start with:

Cheap / Cheerful and it works. Francisco is also a great guy and support is good. It's also not a ton of cash to throw away until you're sure this is what you actually want to do.

Excellent thanks! Yeah after doing more research today reseller looks like a good option to go for to start out.

Personally I'll go VPS with added storage plus Cpanel that way you have the full root access plus you have cpanel so you simply create hosting packages for each client very effective and domains.co.za would be my recommendation on this they will set everything up for you and support is tops. They are also on the forum so getting hold of them if need be is quite easy.

I currently use a VPS with WHM /cpanel on it and basically give clients their own account so they have the full cpanel experience.

Makes your life easier at the end of the day.

Or you can of course just buy the already set up reseller packages from them which is cheaper since it includes cpanel.

That guy is a joke.
looking forward to tomorrow and reading about the hundreds of domains that you manage and how much you love your web host. out of interest... how much do they pay you per post?

Thor he's got a point. You come across as a paid for shill and it's annoying. Lay off the blind hero worship and a lot of us will take you more seriously. The spam isn't helping your cause any though.

You know, I don't actually see a major problem with Thor recommending Domains all the time. I don't have any experience with the company, but if he believes they are a really good hosting company, then he has the right to recommend them.

Keep in mind that he doesn't just post replies that only say, "Domains.co.za - you won't regret it," or "Domains.co.za - have heard a few good things about them." Every time he recommends Domains, he gives the OP (or whomever else) at least one reason to consider them.

Regarding being paid per post, I highly doubt that is the case. Thor is, however, registered as an affiliate. So, by recommending Domains, a visitor may click on the link in his signature and then, should they purchase something from Domains, Thor would be remunerated. Granted, I can understand why some would feel fustrated, and that everywhere you go you see a post from Thor recommending Domains, but that does not retract his right to do it.

However, side note to Thor: Whilst you are not the bad guy here, perhaps tuning it down a little (like skipping every second OP regarding which provider to use, or being a little more diligent regarding who you recomend the provider to) may help calm things down. My only real irritation here is that someone always has something to say, and that can detract from the original point of the OP.

Rant aside, I'd like to recommend EliteHost to the OP. I haven't used Reseller/VPS with them as yet, but if support is what you're looking for, then that's the one reason to have a look at their offerrings. Their Reseller packages are inexpensive and I would presume that they are just as performant and reliable as their other services. That said, I can't vouch for the specific service - someone else would need to jump in an share their experience.

I'm also deciding whether to purchase a Reseller or VPS package from them, and will write about my experience, too.

Elitehost ain't bad at all we have a VPS with them and the downtime is minimal we were down for less than 2 hours this last year combined.

How many sites are you running on the VPS? Lots of traffic?

2 site, averaging 2 - 3 thousand visitors per day, not hits or page views, visitors.

I'll pm you the the link.

Thanks all, i've been checking it out.

Still undecided. Prices differ so dramatically for the specs you get. Even international... i can't find any that can compete with hetzner, am i missing something? (Windows only)

Hetzner
http://www.hetzner.co.za/dedicated-servers/truserv/
R1125 (Windows 2012) - 2TB Traffic, Xeon Quad core, 16Gb ram, 2TB HDD Space
R350 for Plesk
R1475

Domains
https://www.domains.co.za/cloud-server-hosting
R1755 (Windows) - 1.5TB Traffic, 6 Core, 12gb Ram, 300gb HDD
R350 for Plesk
R2105

What im thinking is for Windows (because our main client is ASP and MSSQL based) i'll use a VPS and then for Linux hosting maybe look at a small reseller account for now.

You can also look at OVH.com if you want to go international.

I've been with them for 3 years now.

Go check their prices quickly, it's silly cheap and stuff works it's not a bad option.
