Is it possible to reserve a number that is reaching the end of a third-party contract, to add to my own contract?
The current owner was willing to transfer the number over to my contract, but, apparently, i would have had to transfer the entire contract over which wasn't practical for him. His contract will be coming to an end at the start of next year.

based on experience with Telkom....he would have to request if to be moved to prepaid once the contract ends and then do the transfer over to your name.

If he opts for a month-to-month, but surely if he just closes the contract then the number should automatically come up for reallocation (or, hopefully, reservation), shouldn't it?

Month-to-month is still considered a contract. Have the number migrated to prepaid and then take it over. I don't know if number reservation is a thing for our mobile providers - it might be.

Get him to downgrade to pre-paid and take the sim, number is yours - then you can you take out a contract on that number.

Must consider, the number would have been Rica'ed in his name though, what that means when you put it onto a contract again, i am not sure.
