Reset Computer stuck on "Installing update 8 of 192"

International is down so can't google properly for a solution. Is there anyway to reset the system without having to deal with a crashed VM?
Busy working on some stuff and can't waste 3 hours waiting for it to install updates.

Anyway around this?
Your help would be appreciated.
 
Your question is not quite clear. Was the VM busy updating patches and got stuck on 8 of 192? Had a similar issue with my home PC last night. Busy updating and just froze up. I reset the whole thing and it installed perfectly.
 
It's was just stuck..Reset it and now it's stuck on "Failure configuring Windows Updates, reverting changes.."

what was stuck? the main machine or the VM?

If it's the main machine, best hope that it didn't get stuck because something was being written into a bad sector - you may then be facing a bit of pain to get it back up.

You do have Hiren's Boot CD on hand I presume?

The VM was stuck. Got it up and running now but Active Directory is fudged and IIS doesn't even open.
msdn support says I have to do a clean install :wtf: so I'm pretty screwed all in all.. Have to install a new VM and setup from scratch. Luckily I still have all my code.

:p Internet was having issues during the day at work. IT was [-]breaking[/-] fixing something.

Luckily? Dude, there should be no luck involved - that stuff should be backed up in 3 or 4 different places!

When setting up VM's I usually

1. Make a clone of the VM and keep that for when the 'scorched earth' is required.
2. Keep all data outside the VM and access via a shared drive

Doing this all now. VM's usually sit on USB3 drive, got a fresh copy of the VM now (cloned this.)
Code sits on laptop, accessed through shared drive :)
Only issue is Visual Studio hates building/publishing projects when files are on a share drive but fixed this with a registry hack :)
