Hi
I have recently purchased my old work laptop from my employer, unfortunately I cant hand it back for them to reset it (long story).
So I'm sitting with a PC thats obviously got a lot of stuff installed for their networks, and I cant be the admin, etc.

Whats the best way to format this PC for personal use?
Buy a new SSD and install windows from a boot disk?
Use the windows reset function?
Just type format *.* ?

Advice would be appreciated

  • Buy a Windows 10/11 license from bountybox (or similar)
  • Download the ISO from MS website (link from bountybox)
  • Make a boot drive from a suitably sized USB drive with the tool of your choice (I usually use Rufus)
  • Boot laptop from USB drive
  • In Windows setup delete existing partitions and create new one(s)
  • Install Windows to the partition of your choice
  • Enter key from bountybox (or similar)

If it doesnt have an SSD, buy one and install windows via a bootable USB.

If it does, use a windows installation USB then delete all partitions when prompted.
