Reset Redmi Note 3

So my daughter has a Redmi Note 3 and she can't remember the screen unlock code - have tried all combinations but can't seem to get it.

I tried the hard reset / factory reset by holding "power up + power" button together until the Mi logo appears but all I get greeted with is a picture of the phone asking to connect it to the cable. The videos I have watched show it should go into a factory reset mode where you use the volume up and down buttons to select the next action.

If I hold "volume down + power" button, I get an image with word fastboot but nothing after that.

Any suggestions please? We don't mind loosing all the pics etc, just want to get the phone working again.

Thanks in advance.

Seems it's out of juice. Plug it in charger and repeat.

Phone was charged - about 89% actually.

Have left it on charge again and is now 100% and does the same thing.

The image it shows doesn't necessarily show anything about connecting power - it is a picture of the phone with a picture of the cable at the bottom - nothing about being low on power etc.

Not sure what else to try?

So if I hold down "volume up + volume down + power button" at the same time it takes me to a system diagnostics screen where I can run tests etc but nothing allowing me to factory reset. Holding "volume up + power" takes me to the screen with picture of phone and cable and holding "volume down + power" takes me to a picture of a rabbit wearing a hat and holding a cable with an android robot with its head open as if the rabbit is working on it with the words "Fastboot" below but after a while just resets itself... So confused!

Don't panic, you can definitely still salvage the phone.

Probably a good time now to flash a custom rom - https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-resurrectionremix-5-8-0-t3507433 is a fine choice.

As backstreetboy said there, you'll have to use miflash. Some googling will be ahead :)

Not sure if a custom rom is needed as my daughter is using the phone and she was happy with how it looked and worked so if I can keep it stock then that will be perfect.

So I tried to flash using the tool but get the following error:

"Unspecified error(0x80004005: FAILED (remote: Critical partition flashing is not allowed)"

I have also tried Find my device on Google but it doesn't show.

Is there anything else I can do?

As mentioned, I don't mind loosing all the data on the phone, just want to be able to sue it again.

Please can someone assist?

Thanks.

Surely that is only for your user account and not to unlock the phone pass code?

I have tried something else and will see shortly if it worked.

Sorry, I fixed it.

1. Sign in your Mi account at https://i.mi.com/.
2. Click Find device.
3. Click the device you want to reset from the upper right corner.
4. Click Wipe device.
5. Click Wipe to confirm factory resetting your phone.

Thanks for the tips but I managed to flash it and reset it - for the life of me can't I remember what guide I followed (have so many tabs open and so many different downloads it all just got away from me :) ).

All seems to be working now which is great.
